On this slide, there are numerous dividing ROOT TIP cells. Remember that
mitosis is a continuous process with
four named stages.
- Prophase: look for the chromosomes appearing as a
puffy ball of
threads within the nucleus.
- Metaphase: you should be able to see the chromosomes
lined up in the center of the cell.
- Anaphase: the chromosomes have been pulled apart;
they appear as strands moving toward the opposite poles of the
cell.
- Telophase: the chromosomes are
clumped together at the poles. The cell itself appears to be
pulled apart and two new cells are starting to form.
