The pancreas is composed of two distinct types of glandular tissue.
The pancreatic acini of the pancreas are drained
by exocrine ducts, of which various sizes form a branching system.
Embedded within the pancreatic acini tissue are clusters of endocrine cells
constituting the pancreatic islets (islets of Langerhans) which are
usually lighter-staining.
