Two parts of the pituitary gland are
distinguishable on the PITUITARY GLAND slide even when viewed at the low power magnifications.
- The posterior pituitary or lobe (neurohypophysis) has a
lighter, irregularly fibrous appearance indicating its
derivation from the floor of the brain.
- The anterior pituitary or lobe (adenohypophysis) has darker,
more distinct cells of several types and staining properties;
more blood vessels are seen.
